Sample Ballot for June 5, 2018 Election

Occupation: Yolo County Clerk/Recorder/Assessor

Like most Americans, I am concerned about the future of democracy. I am worried because we now know how easy it is for outside forces to disrupt the trust that we should have in our election results. We now realize that evil doers can infiltrate the computer systems of our banks, corporations and even government records themselves.

Two years ago, I was appointed by the Yolo County Board of Supervisors to be your election official, and I feel humbled that they trusted me with the enormous responsibility of protecting your vote and preserving our democracy.

I feel humbled that they also trusted me to develop plans to safeguard our important records in Yolo County and ensure that property values are assessed in a fair and equitable manner. As your Recorder I keep accurate records of land ownership and land transfers. As Clerk my job is to make it easy for couples to get marriage licenses and when they do get married, to ensure their records are accurate. When children are born or when we lose loved ones, my office keeps track of birth and death certificates. When you need certified copies of those important events, we make it easy for you to find the records you need.

Over the past two years my office has successfully and securely run two major elections and close two county property tax assessment rolls. We have also achieved the following:

  • Provided 40% faster election night reporting results and received state and national recognition for election outreach and language access success
  • Reduced by 13% the number of property tax assessment appeals
  • Provided online marriage applications

Moving forward, I will:

  • Protect your vote through enhanced security measures
  • Update old technology for improved efficiency
  • Increase community outreach and government transparency

My father served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and instilled in me an ethic of hard work and a belief in America. My mother also worked while raising a family and shared the importance of family, faith and giving to others. Their belief in the American dream motivated me to earn a graduate degree from U.C. Berkeley and invest in my family and community. I have been married for 33 years and was blessed with three talented children who have graduated from college.

I am endorsed by all five Yolo County Board of Supervisors… and many more.
