Sample Ballot for June 5, 2018 Election

Occupation: Incumbent

Yolo County has a rich agricultural heritage, wonderful open space, vibrant distinct communities, a world-class university and creative people. I am running for reelection to continue to provide balanced, effective leadership when we need it most.

Over the past 40 years I have built a record of integrity, responsible fiscal and environmental stewardship, and advocacy for our most vulnerable populations. As your County Supervisor since 2011, I have worked with you to expand healthcare and mental health services, improve ambulance service, implement smart on crime strategies, create a more inclusive culture, launch the Valley Clean Energy program, and protect farmland and habitat. Together, we are tackling hunger and homelessness. As Davis Councilmember and Mayor (2004-10), I launched a large water supply project, supported construction of affordable housing, and attracted manufacturing and high-tech jobs. As a Davis School Board Trustee (1995- 2003), I worked to build three new schools and improve educational opportunities for each student.

In addition, my public service includes:

  • Regional leadership roles with Sacramento Area Council of Governments, Yolo Habitat Conservancy, Yolo First Five, Yolo County Transportation District (YoloBus), Capitol Corridor, Greater Sacramento, Yolo Climate Compact, and Valley Clean Energy Alliance.
  • Fiscal Analyst with California’s non-partisan Legislative Analyst Office;
  • Twenty years in leadership roles in California state government;
  • Local government positions in Wyoming and Massachusetts;
  • Soup’s On fundraisers supporting the work of Tuleyome, Winter Shelter, Suicide Prevention, Foster Care, Yolo Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Yolo Interfaith Immigration Network, NAMI-Yolo, Empower Yolo, and Family Hui.

I remain committed to the safety net, stewardship, partnerships, and effective governance. In these challenging times, we are in this together. My leadership priorities for the next four years are:

  • Improve public engagement in decisions that affect people’s lives.
  • Strengthen the safety net to protect our most vulnerable residents and help Yolo residents thrive.
  • Provide responsible stewardship for Yolo’s unique open space, agriculture, environment, water, and habitat.
  • Bolster climate and disaster resilience.
  • Improve transit and transportation infrastructure in Yolo County and the region.
  • Support economic growth.
  • Build stronger partnerships and advocate for Yolo County.
  • Enhance program effectiveness, accountability, cost efficiency, and performance measurement in county government.

None of us succeeds alone. I am most effective when I hear from you and when we come together to solve problems. Please visit me during my open office hour sessions or contact me through I ask for your vote on June 5.
