Presidential General Election

UNITED STATES REPRESENTATIVE, 3RD DISTRICT

John Garamendi

STATEMENT OF CANDIDATE FOR
UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE
IN CONGRESS DISTRICT 3
JOHN GARAMENDI
OccupationOccupation: Congressman/Rancher
Thank you for the privilege to serve as your Congressman.
Improving economic security and protecting you and
America from terrorists attacks are top priorities. On the
Armed Services Committee, I support programs to attack
ISIS, stop cyber attacks, and reduce wasteful spending
on the trillion dollar nuclear arms race.
"Make It In America". Serving on Transportation
Infrastructure Committee, my amendment and votes
increased Buy America standard to 70% USA content
for buses, trains, and 100% for bridges and roads. Keep
good jobs here, not in China. Build infrastructure; put
people to work.
Stop The Tunnels. Save the Delta. As President Clinton's
Deputy Interior Secretary, I fought to protect our water
and environment. Let's build Sites Reservoir, improve
water conservation, recycling, desalinization, and protect
water rights.
Shared prosperity: I support equal pay for equal work,
family farms, family leave, and raising the minimum wage.
As Insurance Commissioner, I protected seniors from
fraud, lowered homeowner and auto rates, created
America's strongest consumer protection agency. My
votes and knowledge shape laws to stop abuse by
insurance companies and Wall Street.
I voted to reduce Medicare drug costs, stop cuts to
Social Security, and increase veterans' benefits. I
support increased Alzheimer's research. As Lieutenant
Governor and UC Regent, I fought tuition increases.
My bill to refinance student loans would save students
and teachers money. I'm a graduate of UC Berkeley and
Harvard, MBA. My wife Patti and I served in the Peace
Corps. We now raise cattle and grow pears on our family
ranch.
/s/ John Garamendi
