Sample Ballot for June 5, 2018 Election

Dear voter:

I grew up in this region. My wife and I raised our family here in the Third District. Our children were born here. They attended local schools. They played on local teams. This community has been good to us.

As a result, I believe in community. I believe in public service, and I believe in priorities.

My priorities are:

  • Making our community safer by partnering with law enforcement.
  • Investing in mental health and healthcare programs.
  • Addressing the issue of homelessness in an effective manner.
  • Conserving our prime agricultural land, our agricultural history and economy.
  • Preserving our clean water and air.
  • Safeguarding programs for children, families and seniors.
  • Restoring our infrastructure that is so vital to our economy and way of life.
  • Uniting our community with a common vision for the future.

We need new approaches to problem solving, and more innovative thinking in government. We must celebrate and respect the value of the hard-working people who are the backbone of our community. We must work together.

Community service:

  • Mayor of the City of Woodland
  • President of our local community college board
  • Member, Yolo County Fair Board
  • Chair of the school district budget advisory committee
  • Worked with local governments, including Yolo County, as a business owner and as a university employee

  • Executive Program, UC Davis
  • Master’s degree, Organizational Development, University of San Francisco
  • Coro Foundation Fellowship in Public Affairs, Coro Foundation
  • BA, Media Studies, “With Distinction,” Sonoma State University
  • Awards:
  • “Educator of the Year” award for service as president of community college board by the Yolo County School Boards Association.
  • “Aguila Unity Award” from the Latino Community Council in recognition of promoting community unity and diversity.
  • “Significant Contributions to Public Schools” by the California Teachers Association.
  • “Public Service Commendation” from the Yolo County Board of Supervisors.
  • Crystal Eagle Award by the California Downtown Association for promotions and marketing of small businesses.
  • Newspaper Publishers of California award for column/commentary writing.

I have served in our schools, colleges and universities, believing that an investment in young people is the best investment for our future.

I have the tools and experience to keep our county moving forward. We need truly independent leadership we can trust. We need someone with a track record of getting things done.

I respectfully request your vote for Supervisor, Third District. Let’s work together.

Thank you,

/s/ Gary A. Sandy
