Yolo County Elections Partners with Dignity Health to Launch New Vote-by-Mail Ballot Collection Program at Woodland Memorial Hospital

August 19, 2021

The Yolo County Elections Office along with Dignity Health announced they are partnering together to launch a new Vote-by-Mail collection pilot program for the upcoming September 14, 2021, California Gubernatorial Recall Election.

On Election Day, September 14, 2021, a deputized Ballot Drop Box retrieval team from the Yolo County Elections Office will visit Dignity Health Woodland Memorial Hospital to retrieve Vote-by-Mail ballots. Vote-by-Mail ballot collection will be open to all individuals working within the facility and any patients that have their Vote-by-Mail ballot and envelope ready to be collected. It is important that voters ensure that they sign and date the back of their Vote-by-Mail ballot return envelopes.

“During this pandemic, healthcare workers have truly become our heroes.  This new program’s goal is to provide ease and accessibility for patients and healthcare workers to return their Vote-by-Mail ballot in a secure way during these difficult times. We look forward to establishing this new partnership by bringing democracy to our hard-working healthcare workers who might not have the opportunity to vote otherwise on election day.  If successful, we hope to expand this pilot program in the future,” says Jesse Salinas, Yolo County Assessor/Clerk-Recorder/Registrar of Voters.

“Participating in elections is one of the key freedoms we enjoy as American citizens, but the opportunity to do so isn’t always easy or accessible for everyone, especially healthcare workers,” said Edmundo Castañeda, Dignity Health Woodland Memorial Hospital President. “Our hospital employees work at all hours of the day and night, and so by partnering with Yolo County, we are meeting them where they are. We are proud to support our employees and community members in exercising their democratic right to cast their vote on issues that are shaping our collective future, and appreciate the leadership from Yolo County Registrar of Voters, Jesse Salinas and the Elections Office for making this happen.”
