Regular Poll Workers
We are always looking for registered voters who are willing to be poll workers on election day. In order to be a poll worker you must be:
- a United States Citizen
- a resident of Yolo County
- at least 18 years old at the time of the next election (if you are 17, and a high school senior, see the left side panel for information on how to be a Student Poll Worker)
- a registered voter in Yolo County
- not in prison or on parole for a felony
Inspectors and Judges
Each polling place has one inspector and at least three judges. The workday begins at 6:15AM and ends at approximately 10:00PM. Inspectors are paid $155.00 and judges are paid $130.00. Following are the duties of the precinct board:
Inspectors:
- Set up the voting booths, tables, and other precinct supplies with the help of the judges on the afternoon or evening before the election
- Attend a training class prior to each election
- Attend a "hands-on" E-Slate training class prior to each election
- Check out the polling place prior to each election
- Arrange ahead of time for entry by 6:15AM on election day
- Check all supplies against checklist to be sure everything has been received
- Assign tasks, arrange breaks and mealtimes at the polling place
- Close the polls and remain until all closing procedures are completed
- Return ballots and materials to the ballot drop-off location (accompanied by one judge)
Judges:
- Attend a training class prior to each election
- Assist in the set up of the polling place prior to each election
- Arrive at the polling place by 6:15 AM on election morning
- Close the polls and remain until all closing procedures are completed
- May accompany the Inspector to deliver ballots and materials to the ballot drop-off location
